On the Road (Penguin Great Books of the 20th Century)

A memoir about two beatniks on an hedonistic extended road-trip rampage across the country (and to Mexico) in the late 40's. The attitudes are dated by today's standards and the characters are not very likable but this book provides an excellent snapshot of the author and his acquaintances during the time the book was written.
